Mariners' Park Permit Form
Thank you for taking an interest in Mariners' Park for your research activities! We are starting a new research permit program at Mariners' Park. This form is for anyone doing research activities in our beautiful 550 acre Park. These spaces include: Mariners' Park (forests, trails, fields, gardens, and beds), the Noland Trail, Mariners' Lake and shorelines, Mariners' James River shoreline, and any outdoor courtyards at the Museum.
Please fill out this form with your information and carefully read through the required procedures and terms. You will only be able to conduct research if you permit is approved.
If you do recurrent, annual research at Mariners' Park, please only apply for the current academic year. If you are bringing a class or organized group that is going near, on, or in the water, we will ask you for a certificate of insurance (COI) from your institution.
Once you have filled out this initial form, we will reach out to you letting you know if your permit was approved or denied and any further actions.
If you have any questions, please email Andrea Rocchio, Park Stewardship Manager, at arocchio(at)marinersmuseum.org.
Best practices and conditions of use:
1) The researcher(s) may need to check in and out at security and/or log hours. The Park Stewardship Manager will let you know details about this if your application is approved.
2) The researcher(s) will use common sense when at the site(s) including, but not limited to, avoiding the blockage of traffic flow, roadways, or pedestrian paths and not causing destruction of property on-site.
3) It's strongly encouraged that the researcher(s) display their institution's logo on clothing, accessories, nametags, and/or vehicles while on campus.
4) The researcher(s) understand they are taking a risk being on site and come to the Park at their own desire.
5) The researcher(s) will give credit to "The Mariners' Museum and Park" when referencing the location of the study in reports and publications.
Shared data agreement:
1) When the research is completed, two (2) paper copies or an electronic version of a complete report, including the types, numbers, and disposition of all collected material, will be furnished to The Mariners’ Museum and Park.
2) By conducting research on The Mariners' Museum and Park's 550 acres property, we want to have access to the resultant data/report for land managers and educators to best steward and care for the land. Data will be shared openly with The Mariners' Museum and Park for this purpose. The data sharing agreement does not prohibit the data's author from publishing or sharing on their own terms.
3) In the event that the research leads to publication, The Mariners’ Museum and Park will be furnished with two (2) reprints or an electronic version of each article or report.
Awareness of visiting procedures:
Generally, if you are coming to the campus during business hours, researcher(s) and/or classes are encouraged to check in and out at the Business Entrance.
If you are coming after hours to conduct research, especially between 9pm - 6am, the Park Stewardship Manager will reach out to you with more details.
If the permit is approved, details about visiting the campus will be sent to you.
Please allow 4-6 business days for a response.
Thank you!
